In the bottom of the fourth inning with the Rays trailing 3-2, Margot, on third base with two outs and pitcher Clayton Kershaw on the mound, made his mad dash towards home plate on a 1-1 count. Kershaw was in the middle of his windup when he saw Margot coming down the third base line. He stepped off the rubber and quickly threw the ball to catcher Austin Barnes.

Barnes tagged Margot out in a close play at the plate, ending the inning and the Rays’ threat. The play was not reviewed.

“If Manny felt he had a read, for whatever reason, it’s tough for me to say yes or no,” said Rays manager Kevin Cash. “He’s a talented baserunner. He might be seeing something that I’m not.
“He’s trying to do something to pick his team up.”
It was a valiant effort by Margot, but the Rays momentum ended with that play and the Dodgers went on to win 4-2.
Opposing runners are 0-for-3 against the left-hander when trying to steal home on Kershaw during his career, according to the Fox broadcast.
The last player caught stealing home in the World Series was Minnesota Twins’ Shane Mack in 1991 on a failed squeeze play against the Atlanta Braves, according to Elias Sports Bureau. The last successful steal of home in the World Series was Anaheim Angels’ Brad Fullmer in 2002 on a double steal against the San Francisco Giants.

The last time a player attempted a straight steal of home in the World Series was Game 3 of the 1982 World Series when Lonnie Smith got caught stealing home with 2 outs in the 3rd inning in a 2-0 game.
