Tim Allen has held a number of fan-favorite roles throughout his career (for example, Home Improvement, among others) but none have been quite as fun to watch as the 67-year-old playing Mike Baxter in Fox’s Last Man Standing.
The show—which focuses on Tim’s role as Mike, a father of three daughters aiming to maintain his masculinity while constantly surrounded by women—has been on the air since 2011. In the midst of filming the ninth and final season, the network announced its cancellation, noting that the series finale will take place in 2021.
Naturally, fans of the show are pretty bummed.
“Oh how this breaks my heart!” one fan wrote on Twitter. “It’s so hard to find great, clean, comedy, funny-political related family shows especially in the world we live in today and LMS was exactly that for our family. Your Patriotism and Love for our great country will be greatly missed!”
Another fan added, “I wish you all the best, but I really wish you would reconsider. LMS is a rare thing many of us crave. Good, clean, funny entertainment with people we can relate to.”
As sad as the series close may feel, if Tim has anything to say about it, this final season will be the best one yet.
So hard to express how cool it’s been to be a part of this near decade long creation. Our final year…damn. You are going to love the what we are planning! Shooting as I type.

“So hard to express how cool it’s been to be a part of this near decade long creation,” he wrote on Twitter on Wednesday, October 15, following the announcement. “Our final year…damn. You are going to love what we are planning! Shooting as I type.”
Of course, this isn’t the first time the show has come to an end. After all, the sitcom originally debuted on ABC in 2011 before getting cut in 2017. Thankfully, Fox picked up the series to grant fans these final three seasons.
